This is made my decoupage and collage by paper and it’s very delicate and colourful work. Even during the grey days in winter, when I see this colourful picture it makes me feel happy. It was probably done by a group at the Bromley By Bow Centre before I joined. We meet here every Wednesday and do different activities - one day it may be basket making, sandwich making, sculpture or knitting, other days it might be a masterclass with stained glass or visiting a special exhibition.
This was taken in Tower Hamlets cemetery where quite often I cross the road. I walk by and see the flowers. It shows the new flowers of life. People may be buried here but the flowers remind us that new life is coming. It’s not a dead end, it makes me think of eternity. I lived here for 7 years before I found this. Some of the trees are over 150 years old. In summer they have festivals, movies, groups by interest, education programmes, volunteer programmes and it’s important for my community.
As soon as I came home after Keith shared his work and story about the "painting on canvas" workshop, I painted this powerful message which I once saw sprayed on the wall. It's a reminder for me and a message for my children. A change always begins from within, which creates a ripples effect. Sharing our own experiences can inspire others to see things differently and try something new.
